As you can see, by putting more points in one Ability rather than in another, and by choosing different Signature Skills, I ended up with a completely different scene and completely different dialogue options. ![]() You can follow through with what Half-Light is telling you, and start insulting and screaming at the poor girl, in a disgusting display of human toxicity. Once I did, and once the girl understandably refused me, Half-Light popped out again with a "HOW DARE YOU? I AM A GOD!" and other insults. You should ask her out", and a dialogue option would pop up, allowing me to do so. These two ended up telling me something along the lines of "She's completely into you. In the same scene, instead of having Empathy talking to me, I had Physical Instrument first, then Half-Light second. In my second playthrough, Physical Instrument was my Signature Skill, and FYS was my most prominent Ability. This made it so that as I made a call to a distressed girl, after asking a few questions, Empathy would come in and tell me: "Stop pushing her, there's no point" and would follow it up with an attempt at understanding her distress and the cause of it. All of them are actors in this game, and are the eyes you end up seeing most of the game through, as well as the most relevant modifiers to how your story unfolds.Ī quick example in my first playthrough, the Empathy skill was my Signature Skill, and PSY was my most prominent Ability. This happens because your main companions in this game - outside of your partner - will be the fragments of your own psyche, going from your Volition, to your Logic, to your Visual Calculus, to your Rethoric, to your Perception. As I said before, depending on your most prominent Abilities and on your Signature Skill, your experience will change radically. Signature Skills and Abilities balancing are probably the most important moments of the game. While those builds are not bad, by choosing a preset build you are forfeiting the chance to read about all of the 24 Skills you will use during the rest of your adventure and, most important of all, the chance to choose your own Signature Skill. ![]() This is exceptionally important, as it may happen that one of the descriptions to one of the preset builds might match your RP idea for your character and, without thinking twice, you could end up using that build. Let's go back to the character creator screen here you have 4 different options, 3 of which are preset builds: always choose to create your own detective. This passage is essential to the rest of the game, maybe even more so than it is in your average RPG, because when you choose the main Abilities and Skills of your detective, you're at the same time unknowingly choosing your main "companions" through the rest of the story. The first thing the game asks of you when you click on New Game is to create a Character. I will tend to address some of the sections of this guide into two different parts: the Roleplayer part and the Completionist/Save-scummer one, as their playstyle in this game and the tips I will give to each player will be at times even wildly different. Now, the following guide will contain minor spoilers pertaining early scenarios, but it will not give away major story content and, without the proper context, they hold no real spoilery value. As I've now played through Disco Elysium with a couple of very different builds, I feel it can be useful, especially here in the Cohhmmunity, to discuss about some of the tips and ways that will let you experience Disco Elysium the way you prefer. ![]()
